A Tiny Project to get the Juices Flowing :)

Well I have to give props to you working mom's that still find time to blog and be crafty. I am just plain not good at it. I feel like there is never enough time in the day to get the things I would like to do done. This is definitely an adjustment, but I appreciate you all sticking with me.

I'm slowly working on getting rooms around the new house "complete." Why is it that when you move, suddenly your current decor is no longer up to par? One of the rooms I'm working on is Little Sisters room. When we moved we sold her crib and she has been sleeping in a toddler bed, so I am trying to change her nursery decor into more of a big girl room.

I have no real theme, just things that I've liked and inspirations from Pinterest. I came across this rug...

Super cute right? Kind of peacock like. Then I came across this awesome mod pillow from Positively Splendid

I had an extra canvas laying around, so I came up with my own little take on both the projects and this is what I came up with.

Definitely doesn't make the room complete or anything, but it's a stride in the right direction. So what inspiration have you found off Pinterest?

Quick Update

Just wanted to give you all a quick update, I know I've been gone awhile again. We are in our new home now (nearly completely unpacked) and are trying to get settled in. My mind is going crazy with all the DIY projects I can think of for our new space. I'm super excited about it and I think that you will be too. Currently, I am working full time and loving my new job, but it hasn't left much time for all those projects just yet.

And if you're wondering why I haven't posted pictures yet...well notice I said NEARLY completely unpacked...I have yet to unpack the cord for my camera...I have no idea what box I put it in, but good news I only have like 15 boxes left, so its gotta be coming some time soon.

Thanks for sticking around, and I'm hoping to be back up and running in a few days!

DIY Pallets...and Big Brother Room Progress

On my way home from work, I noticed a certain something laying next to the dumpster behind one of our little strip malls. It was just what I had been looking for, and if they were by the dumpster, they had to be throwing them away. I could barely contain the excitement when I got home to tell my husband. When I walked in, he could tell by my beaming face that I was up to something. Hesitantly, he asked me, "What?" I simply said, "After supper, could we go pick up something with your truck?"

Again, "What," was his response.

"I found some pallets, and you know how I've been wanting to make Big Brother's headboard out of them?" (I've been designing Big Brothers room after this photo, I love the color scheme and the headboard)

He quickly reminded me that I needed to call and check on them first because "Pallets are worth money, people just don't give them away." (Insert eye roll here) But I knew he was right, so I called and they said YES! So this is what I brought home...

ehhh, not as excited once I got them home. There was a definite reason they were by the dumpster...they were trash. I thought that maybe I could salvage some of the pieces and just rebuild the back. Well that didn't work too well either, so of course I was bummed.

The trooper that hubby is, he said that we could go to Home Depot and pick up some lumber and make our own! (Insert jumping with excitement here). Now I know what you are are moving in a few weeks, why would you make something else that you have to move. Well, truth be told, I'm impatient. (I know, you're surprised) But I also have about a dozen other projects to work on once we move that I thought my evening was better spent working on this headboard now (and also avoided some packing:)

So we headed off to Home Depot. After measuring Big Brothers bed, I decided that I wanted this pallet to be 45" tall and 55" wide to give about an 8" overhang on each side of the bed.

We ended up purchasing 3 1/2 " wide cedar fence boards for 77 cents! Wooohooo! We bought 11 boards and then one 1x2 firring strip (we had another one at home from a previous project).

So then hubby cut the boards down for me to 55" and cut three firring strips to 44". We started to lay them out...

After laying them out, we decided that we wanted a two inch over hang on the side and an once inch over hang on the top to resemble more of a pallet. Then we unevenly spaced the cedar boards across the firring strips. And after a little sanding, she is...okay, probably should be here he is...

Still needs some stain and a little bit of roughing up, but you get the general idea. The boards were actually a little wet from Home Depot, so I couldn't finish it tonight, but of course I had to get a look at it in Big Brothers room before I could call it a night.

So hopefully I'll get to work on it some more tomorrow evening (if I can avoid packing again).

A few other things I have planned for Big Brothers room at the new house is rich and beautiful Blue-Grey Slate from Glidden and this gorgeous bedding from West Elm...

Waiting for a free shipping coupon or for it to go on sale because it's a little rich for my blood :) So there it is, a little progress a little DIY project, hope you enjoyed!

We Be Making Changes

That's right, lots of changes going on here. Hubby has accepted a new position at a different church, so we are on the move. The move is only a couple of hours away...

We are currently on the house hunt and will post pictures as soon as we find that perfect place! Finding a home is a little more difficult this time around since we have kiddos. With Big Brother getting close to school age, we want to make sure we are in a great area with a great school. When we told Big Brother we would be moving, this is the reaction we got...

He was very concerned at the thought of leaving his home (although he doesn't realize it, this is actually the third home he's lived in since he was born). He wanted to make sure we were going to bring all of his things, like his bed, his light and his blankie :) Oh, if those were the only things we had to worry about. I comforted him and told him that everything would be coming with us and for him not to worry. I also reminded him that he would be going to school, and he cheered right up! (If that would stay the same the rest of his schooling years, oh how lucky I would be :)

So we will be busy here packing and such, I'll try to keep updates as often as I can, but as all my readers know, sometimes life as a mom, pastors wife, and business professional, that's not always possible. Thanks for your patience with me and for sticking around and reading my blog! Talk with you soon!

I Still Love Picnik

I've said this before in previous posts, but I do, really love Picnik. I've been eyeing this print over at Land of Nod for months now.

But at $89 and not exactly the color scheme I wanted it was a no no. So I went onto Picnik and got to work. Here is what I created...

After I created it on Picnik, I headed over to Snapfish. (Did you know that you can have this printed at Walmart in an hour? Well I couldn't get it to crop right, so I ended up having it mailed, so one week later, I received my masterpiece:) It looks great in the kiddos bathroom and was the perfect accent to my recent bathroom "mini" makeover (aka paint, shower curtain).

And in case you wanted to see the shower curtain :)

I really love the print and the way it turned out!

And while I was typing this post, Big Brother and Little Sister insisted that I take their pictures, so it would only be fair if I shared those here too :)

Well these pictures are a few weeks late, but better late then never right? Easter is by far my favorite holiday. As a Christian it is the the day on which my faith stands and I could not be more thankful for my Lord and Savior, Jesus, for making the sacrifice for me. We spent most of the day at church and I was able to snap a few pictures.

Here is Little Sister rocking her new sunglasses that she got in her Easter basket.

It was extremely windy here that day as you'll see by her hair...

Big Brother, always a ham

And of course, an Easter egg hunt...

I pray that you all had a great Easter!

Friday Finds: Easter Outfit Hunting

So today I realized that Easter is only two weeks away and I haven't even begun to look for Easter outfits for the kiddos. Some of you lucky people are probably thinking, "two weeks, you have plenty of time." Unfortunately I live in a small city (we literally have Walmart and K-mart...that's it), so most of my purchases are on line. I thought I would share some super cute things that I found with you :)

I'm a sucker for shoes for my baby girl. When she was born I bought these adorable shoes from Gracious May.

Unfortunately Little Sister no longer fits into these and she is just about out of the largest size that they come in (sigh). Then I came across this other website that sells adorable shoes in larger sizes! (Thank you Pinterest)

Gorgeous right? Check out Joyfolie...not only do they have cute shoes, but adorable clothes and accessories too!

I wish I could sew, because this dress from Sewing in No Mans Land is absolutely gorgeous!

These dresses on Etsy is super cute too...

And a few things for Big Brother...does anyone else love Children's Place as much as I do?!?! This is my go to shop for all my kids clothes!

What are your kids wearing for Easter? Where do you shop for kids clothes?

Random Post

Things have been pretty busy here on the home front, so that's going to make today's post kind of random :) I started a new job this week and haven't been able to get my craft on, so no new projects this week, sorry :(

So next week I'm getting ready to head to Denver to take my friend and her son to a doctor's appointment. On our way home, we get to stop at this awesome place called the JBF (Just Between Friends) Sale! Have you guys heard of this?!?! If not, you need to check out their website and see if they have a sale in your area. It's basically a huge garage sale for kids stuff!

Pretty sweet, huh?!?!

In the mean time, I'm catching up on emails and my girl and I are listening to some tunes, gotta love us some Bruno Mars!

Friday Finds

So I have a fantastic website to share with you! You're going to thank me for this I promise! Have you heard of Pinterest.? I came across this site only a few weeks ago, but already my life is easier!

I have this long list of bookmarks of things that inspire me, and then there are other times that I can't remember where I saw something that I wanted to create. Well that is a problem no more! Pinterest is like a catalog of all those things you want to remember. You can now "Pin It" instead of trying to bookmark it and you can organize them into different boards!

One of my boards is for Big Brother's room and I am stockpiling are a few

And not only do I have all the pictures of those inspiration, but it saves the location as well! Awesome right! Well head on over to Pinterest and request an invite. It takes about a week, and you'll receive an me, you'll be happy you did!

If you want to look at any of my boards, click here

A Little More Progress

I thought I would show you a few more pictures of the progress of Big Brother's room. He has an older dresser that has been painted many different colors through the years :) We decided to make one last go of it and repaired the drawers and then I got out my chalkboard paint!

If you've never used it will get addicted :) I painted our pantry door last year and have been dying to paint something else.

Oops, forgot to push a drawer in, but Big Brother loves to draw on it and it's super easy to clean.

I also found this great tutorial featured on Knock Off Decor. I loved these prints from Restoration Hardware, but needed something more airplane related.

Well following the tutorial found here this is what I came up with.

(Please ignore the missing switch plate cover, we lost the screw when I repainted the room and I haven't got to the hardware store yet to pick up a new one)

There's still lots to be done (mostly building projects, so hubby if you're reading this get ready :) I did order this cool little toy to be displayed on one of the shelves though...

So cool right?!?! Can't wait till that little toy gets here!

I'm the Map, I'm the Map, I'm the Map

So about a month or so ago we moved Big Brother from his toddler bed into a twin bed. At only three years old, this kid is tall! According to doctor's charts, he's the average height of a five year old. So after I moved the bed in, I realized his room was in the need of some major redo.

I didn't take any before pictures, but just think boring and you'll pretty much get the gist of it :). So we are starting this process, it is going to take some time since I am going to try and be as frugal as possible. Buy things on sale, at garage sales, flea markets, craigslist, etc. Big Brother has requested an airplane room, so I'll do my best to create something that he can grow into.

A few weeks ago I came across this great store on Etsy that had the perfect artwork for Big Brother's room.

Gorgeous right?!? The price was $170, which in reality, for a large piece of art work, hand painted is not actually too bad. I thought I could do it cheaper and so I waited until canvas's went on sale at Michaels and snatched up six 12 x 12's. (I spent $36). Then I picked up some acrylic paint from Walmart ($2) and got sketching. Here is the finished project...

I love how it turned out, and Big Brother loves it too! More progress to come on this room in the upcoming weeks :)

Join us Saturdays at for the weekend wrap up party!
