A Little More Progress

I thought I would show you a few more pictures of the progress of Big Brother's room. He has an older dresser that has been painted many different colors through the years :) We decided to make one last go of it and repaired the drawers and then I got out my chalkboard paint!

If you've never used it before...be careful...you will get addicted :) I painted our pantry door last year and have been dying to paint something else.

Oops, forgot to push a drawer in, but Big Brother loves to draw on it and it's super easy to clean.

I also found this great tutorial featured on Knock Off Decor. I loved these prints from Restoration Hardware, but needed something more airplane related.

Well following the tutorial found here this is what I came up with.

(Please ignore the missing switch plate cover, we lost the screw when I repainted the room and I haven't got to the hardware store yet to pick up a new one)

There's still lots to be done (mostly building projects, so hubby if you're reading this get ready :) I did order this cool little toy to be displayed on one of the shelves though...

So cool right?!?! Can't wait till that little toy gets here!

I'm the Map, I'm the Map, I'm the Map

So about a month or so ago we moved Big Brother from his toddler bed into a twin bed. At only three years old, this kid is tall! According to doctor's charts, he's the average height of a five year old. So after I moved the bed in, I realized his room was in the need of some major redo.

I didn't take any before pictures, but just think boring and you'll pretty much get the gist of it :). So we are starting this process, it is going to take some time since I am going to try and be as frugal as possible. Buy things on sale, at garage sales, flea markets, craigslist, etc. Big Brother has requested an airplane room, so I'll do my best to create something that he can grow into.

A few weeks ago I came across this great store on Etsy that had the perfect artwork for Big Brother's room.

Gorgeous right?!? The price was $170, which in reality, for a large piece of art work, hand painted is not actually too bad. I thought I could do it cheaper and so I waited until canvas's went on sale at Michaels and snatched up six 12 x 12's. (I spent $36). Then I picked up some acrylic paint from Walmart ($2) and got sketching. Here is the finished project...

I love how it turned out, and Big Brother loves it too! More progress to come on this room in the upcoming weeks :)

Friday Finds

A month or two ago I came across this amazing website.

Ana White - making a home with handmade furniture and other DIY projects

This site is absolutely awesome! We've already built one project, a headboard for the master bedroom

It still needs a coat of paint, but we love it! We have plans in the works for building the farmhouse twin bed for my son's room re-do with a little variation...

We really like this bed from Restoration Hardware, so we will alternate the plans from Ana's website slightly to look more like this...we'll be sure to post pictures when we get around to actually building it :)

So go check out Ana's website, and get DIY'ing something extravagant for yourself!

Kids Craft : Snow Globe

Ok, first I know that many of you have probably done this project before, but sometimes it's nice to jog your memory for something to do with the kiddos.

On a cold snowy morning while Little Sister was taking a nap, Big Brother and I worked on this fun kids snow globe. Here is what you'll need

Glass Jar (I used a pickles jar)
Hot Glue Gun
Small Plastic Toy
Water
Glitter

Big Brother wanted to use one of his many Lego men for this project. We went out and grabbed some rocks and hot glued them on the lid. I would not recommend this, the rocks ended up not lasting very long between the water and glue, stick with the plastic toys :)

While that is cooling, we filled the jar a little over 3/4 full and then added some glitter.

And there you have it, a quick and easy project for the kiddos.

And She Returns...

Well after my very long hiatus, I am finally returning to blog world :) I know, I know, control all your excitement. My recovery process is finally allowing me to get back to the normal day to day activities, and I am going to try my hardest to make sure that includes a daily (Monday thru Friday) blog post.

For those of you wanting an update. My thyroid cancer is in remission and my thyroid replacement medication seems to finally be regulated (that was a LONG and grueling process). Now my days can get back to being filled with laughing children, getting messy, and great DIY projects for you!

Here's a few things we have been up to...

Building Marshmallow Sculptures (This is a wonderful craft for a snowy, cold day)

During this process Little Sister was sitting in her high chair enjoying marshmallows. Big Brother thought it was necessary to add "guns" to protect the fortress...notice who they are aimed at :)

We were able to take Big Brother sledding for his very first time! He loved it and even carried his own sled up the big hill without complaining.

Big Brother entered his second derby race.

The finished product...(Daddy and Mommy obviously added some assistance :)

And look who won 3rd place in his division! He was so proud, and he tells everyone Lightning McQueen won the piston cup :)

For those of you who don't know, I'm originally from Wisconsin...that means I'm a HUGE Packer's fan. Was I ever so stoked about the Super Bowl this year and couldn't let my Little Girl celebrate without wearing the proper colors :) I made this tutu for her. You can find lots of free tutorials online for making tutu's...I might post one in the next few weeks. I have a new niece and she might be in the need for something like this :)

Well that's it for today, but here is what is coming up tomorrow...

It's an easy kids craft, so come back tomorrow and check it out!
